Day Job began as a commentary on retail but has transformed over the years into a slice-of-life comic about four friends and their adventures. Set in the fictional neighborhood Broomandle Park in the very real city of Baltimore, Maryland, Day Job follows the lives of Kate, Leo, Anthony and Amy. On either side of a coffee shop, Leo runs a record store while Kate runs a book store. The comic explores friendship, dating, yelling, boredom, pranks, sometimes retail, and more yelling.
I’ve been writing and illustrating Day Job for over 10 years, and over that time have created a solid foundation of characters and locations that allows the comic to flow more freely than it ever has before. Where its sister comic, This is 65, is a collection of mostly individual, one-off jokes, Day Job is at its core a character piece.
